Short answer: No persimmon soap has been independently shown to work better than the others, so the fairest way to choose is on things you can check: price per bar, shipping to where you live, how generous the guarantee is, and whether the full ingredient list is published. When we checked on 7 October 2026, all six brands here sold to the UK, at least through Amazon, and two published a full ingredient list on their own websites.
Persimmon soap, sometimes called kaki soap, is soap made with extract or tannin from the Japanese persimmon. People use it like ordinary soap, focusing on the places where the scent of ageing skin tends to build up. On 7 October 2026 we looked at each brand's own website and, for the two Amazon products, their Amazon listings. We noted only what was shown there: price, shipping, guarantee, ingredient list and subscription terms. No brand pays to be included. Each brand in brief
Asayu Japan
A Japanese company based in Fukuoka. The bars weigh 85 g and the full ingredient list is published, with "Persimmon (Kaki) Tannin" 11th of 12 ingredients. Shipping to the UK and US is free from local stock. Returns on its own website are accepted for 14 days, unused items only.
Hotcho
A three-pack of 100 g bars sold by a third-party seller on Amazon. It is by far the cheapest option we found. The ingredient list on the listing is incomplete, so you cannot tell how much persimmon it contains.
Kakiyu
A US company registered in Delaware that ships to the UK, the US, Canada and Australia. Its shipping policy lists a flat fee per parcel, while its product FAQ says multi-packs ship free, so check at checkout. Amazon carries listings with "Kakiyu" in the title from other sellers, and Kakiyu says these are not its products.
KAKIORA
A bar with Japanese persimmon (kaki) extract in a gentle soap-free base of coconut-derived cleansers, glycerin, skin-softening emollients, vitamin E and a light fragrance. The full ingredient list is not published online but is sent on request. Orders ship within 2 working days. A subscription (every 4, 6 or 8 weeks) takes 14% off and ships free.
Kaori
Kaori offers free shipping on all orders and has UK and US storefronts. It does not state a bar weight, so you cannot work out a price per 100 g. The product page and the refund policy describe the guarantee differently, so read both.
Mirai Clinical
A US brand based in Nevada that also sells on Amazon in the UK and US. It publishes a 14-item ingredient list with "Persimmon Tannin" sixth. Its Amazon listings give the bar weight as 100 g. US orders over $60 ship free; its website says international orders can take 21 to 45 business days.
What to check yourself
- Is persimmon really on the label? Look for "Diospyros Kaki" or "Persimmon Tannin" in the ingredient list. Our buying guide explains how to check a listing.
- Price per bar and per gram. Bar sizes differ, and some brands do not give a weight.
- Delivery time and costs. Some brands ship from abroad, which can mean longer waits or import charges.
- The guarantee. Does it cover every order or only the first? Must the bar be unused, and who pays to send it back?
- Subscriptions. Check whether one is pre-selected and how you cancel.
Tip: Some brands advertise figures such as "97% Nonenal Elimination" or promise that the smell disappears completely. We found no published research backing figures like these for a soap. What a soap can reasonably do is help wash away the oily residue that carries the smell.

Why do prices vary so much?
