We looked at each retailer's public website on 7 October 2026. Several sites use security checks that stopped our searches, and we did not try to get around them. Where that happened, we ran a web search limited to that retailer's website instead, as the table shows.
Ranges change often, and websites may not match the shelves in your local branch. We did not visit any shops, so treat this as a snapshot and check the retailer's own website before making a special trip.

Buying on Amazon, eBay or walmart.com: five checks
Marketplace listings vary a great deal. The same search can show a bar made with real persimmon extract next to one that simply smells fruity.
1. Find persimmon in the ingredients, not just the title
On a cosmetic ingredient list (often called the INCI list), persimmon appears under its botanical name, Diospyros kaki. Look for entries such as "Diospyros Kaki Fruit Extract", "Diospyros Kaki Leaf Extract" or "Diospyros Kaki Fruit Juice". Some Japanese-made bars list "persimmon tannin" instead. If persimmon appears only in the product name and the ingredients just say "Parfum" or "Fragrance", the persimmon may be a scent rather than an extract.
Ingredients are listed roughly in order of quantity, but anything under 1% can appear in any order at the end, so position only tells you so much. If a listing shows no ingredient list at all, message the seller or choose another listing.
2. Check who is selling it and where it ships from
On Amazon UK, look at the "Dispatches from" and "Sold by" lines; on Amazon US they read "Ships from" and "Sold by". Clicking the seller's name usually shows their business details. On eBay, check the item's location and the seller's feedback. On walmart.com, look for the "Sold and shipped by" line, as many products there come from outside sellers.
A delivery estimate of several weeks usually means the parcel is coming from abroad. Orders from another country can take longer and may bring extra import charges, depending on how the seller handles them.
3. UK buyers: look for a UK address on the pack
Cosmetics sold in Great Britain should name a UK-based "Responsible Person" on the packaging. If the listing photos show the label, look for a UK name and address. It is a useful sign that the seller has taken UK rules seriously.
4. Read the returns policy before you order
Opened toiletries are often excluded from returns for hygiene reasons, and policies differ from seller to seller. Read the listing's returns section, and know what the marketplace's own buyer protection covers if an item never arrives or isn't as described.
5. Be wary of very big promises
Some listing titles promise to "eliminate" or "remove" body odour (or "odor", on US listings). No soap can do that for good. A realistic promise is that a persimmon soap helps wash away the oily residue that carries the smell. Modest, specific descriptions are usually a better sign than bold claims.
